Hey all! My name is Julia, former college student and a home decor enthusiast who loves DIY home improvement projects and finding creative ways to decorate any living spaces on a budget. Recently moved from my dorm to my new apartment which I renovated from scratch and I am here to help you with tips & tricks about home decor/college and more 🙂

If you’re always looking for new ways to display your favorite candles, this project is for you. We’re making gorgeous clay candle holders that are easy to shape, totally customizable, and guaranteed to add a unique touch to any space. Let’s get creative and make something you won’t find in any store!

Today I’ve got something special for all the candle lovers out there.

As you know, I’m obsessed with candles, so you’ll often see ideas like this from me.

The truth is, we can make such beautiful candle holders ourselves—ones you just can’t find in stores.

What you’ll need:

  • Pastry mat (or any surface for rolling)
  • Clay
  • A little water
  • Rolling pin
  • Knife (if you want to cut a smaller circle)
  • Tall glass (I didn’t have one tall enough, so I taped two together)

Alright, let’s get started! I’m using ready-to-use clay, but if you have a different kind, just prepare it as needed.

Once your clay is ready, start kneading it until you form a nice, smooth ball.

Next up: rolling it out! If you haven’t had an arm workout in a while, here’s your chance.

Roll out the clay until you have a circle.

You can cut a perfect circle or leave it a little uneven—it’s totally up to you.

I left mine a bit asymmetrical because I think the shapes turn out more interesting that way.

Once your circle is ready, smooth out any rough edges with a finger dipped in water.

Get your glass ready for shaping, then gently lift your clay circle off the mat.

Place the center of the clay over the bottom of the glass and shape those pretty ruffles that form.

Let it dry as long as needed, and your candle holder is done!

BONUS: Once your candle holder is dry, you can paint it with spray paint or any color you like.

Get creative!
